3. Tradition and Faith
In childhood, when we saw our mothers and grandmothers finishing the puja with the priest. During Kojagari Puja from the neighbourhood, elder women, aunties, grandmothers all used to come together to listen to the ‘Bratakatha’ (the sacred story of the riual). They all sat in a circle and listened to the Bratakatha with full attention.
They listened so deeply, as if they had entered the story themselves. A 17 or 18 year-old boy would sit and recite the ‘Lakshmi Panchali’ in a melodic tone, without getting bored at all.
All the stories there spoke about receiving the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Everyone would think, “If only Goddess Lakshmi blessed us a little, how wonderful that would be. By performing ‘Kojagari Puja’, people developed deep faith and devotion toward Goddess Lakshmi.
“শরত্ পূর্ণিমার নিশি নির্মল গগন।

বৈকুন্ঠ ধামেতে বসি করে আলাপন।।”
