OnePlus Flagship Killer: Back in 2014, the smartphone world witnessed something extraordinary, the birth of OnePlus. The brand entered the scene with the OnePlus One, a phone that offered true flagship performance at an unbelievable price of around ₹22,000.

Powered by the Snapdragon 801 processor and running on CyanogenMod OS, it delivered a smooth, customizable, and premium experience.

The invite-only purchase system made the OnePlus One feel exclusive, and the community-driven approach helped the brand gain massive popularity.

Its sandstone finish, excellent performance, and unbeatable value created a new category, the Flagship Killer.

OnePlus Builds Its Identity (OnePlus 2 to OnePlus 3T)

After the success of the first model, OnePlus released the OnePlus 2, which came with a fingerprint sensor, USB-C port, and OxygenOS, the company’s own clean and fast Android-based operating system.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T marked a major leap forward. Featuring AMOLED displays, Snapdragon 820/821, and Dash Charging, these devices became fan favourites for their balanced design and reliable performance. The 3T also introduced the “T-series” tradition that continues even today.

Expanding the Horizon (OnePlus 5 to OnePlus 6T)

By 2017, OnePlus had matured into a truly global brand. The OnePlus 5 brought dual cameras, while the 5T introduced a modern 18:9 display and improved low-light photography.

The OnePlus 6 delivered a glass body and edge-to-edge display, while the 6T became the first OnePlus phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner and Nightscape mode.

The McLaren Edition added premium features like 30W fast charging and distinctive design, a clear sign that OnePlus was stepping into the premium flagship zone.

OnePlus Flagship Killer (OnePlus 7 to OnePlus 8T)

2019 saw OnePlus challenge global flagships head-on. The OnePlus 7 Pro featured a 90Hz AMOLED display, UFS 3.0 storage, and a pop-up camera, setting new benchmarks in performance and smoothness.

The 7T and 7T Pro refined the experience with faster charging and improved displays. The 8 series in 2020 brought 5G, wireless charging, and IP68 water resistance, proving that OnePlus could now compete with Samsung and Apple at the top.

The Camera Era (OnePlus 9 to OnePlus 11)

OnePlus began focusing on camera performance with the OnePlus 9 series, partnering with Hasselblad for colour calibration and natural tone reproduction. The 9 Pro marked a turning point for photography on OnePlus devices.

The 10 Pro further improved design and thermals with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while the 11 series offered a near-perfect balance of performance, design, and value. The OnePlus 11R, especially, won praise for bringing flagship power at an accessible price.

Refinement and Responsibility (OnePlus 12 & Project Starlight)

The OnePlus 12 series took things to the next level with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, wireless charging, and major camera upgrades. The 12R continued OnePlus’s commitment to performance and efficiency.

However, OnePlus’s biggest win came from Project Starlight, a lifetime display warranty initiative that addressed the notorious green-line issue. This bold move reinforced the brand’s dedication to user trust and satisfaction.

The Future Begins (OnePlus 15 Series)

As OnePlus prepares to launch the OnePlus 15 launch on 13 November 2025, anticipation is at an all-time high. This next-generation device is set to be India’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Zen 5 processor, offering exceptional performance and energy efficiency.

From its humble beginnings with the OnePlus One to becoming a premium global leader with the OnePlus 15, the brand has stayed true to its vision, Never Settle. The story of OnePlus is not just about technology; it’s about passion, community, and innovation.

From an invite-only cult favourite to a mainstream powerhouse, OnePlus has grown without losing its core identity.  OnePlus journey reflects a rare combination of innovation and integrity that continues to inspire the tech industry.
