West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme in June, 2021. Even at that time, she had a strong sense of how much demand this scheme would generate. She made it clear that no matter how much pressure comes, this scheme can never be discontinued.
Why is the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme Given?
Women receive the Lakshmir Bhandar money every month. They use this money for their personal needs. What’s special is that the government doesn’t give the money to just one member of the family – every woman in the household who is 25 years or older is eligible to receive it.
Women themselves have said that receiving this money gives them a bit of relief. Running a household with just the little money they get from their husbands is often not enough, which is why they have to look to the government for support. They’ve expressed that this extra help from the government feels like getting something more – something that acknowledges their worth. They say their “Didi” (Mamata Banerjee) has given them not just financial aid, but a greater sense of dignity and rights.
Is there a chance of receiving extra money in the month of July?
Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, general women receive Rs. 1,000 while, women from scheduled castes and tribes receive Rs. 1,200. If the amount is increased to Rs. 1,500, it could help improve the standard of living for many general category women. That’s why they are waiting hopefully, looking towards the Chief Minister. If she kindly decides to increase the amount, it would make a real difference in their lives and offer them a bit more comfort.
Still, there’s hope – and as the saying goes, hope keeps us going. People believe that the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme will soon bring a little extra support into the hands of Bengal’s women. And that belief itself gives them strength.
But ordinary people are saying that the chances of the amount increasing before the elections are very low. They believe that for Didi, votes matter most. She might consider increasing the Lakshmir Bhandar money only when elections are near. So, it seems the women of Bengal will have to wait until 2026.

Is there any update for new applicants?
Yes, of course – life is all about the old and the new. There are some updates for new applicants as well, which we’ll talk about in this report. Many women have recently applied for the scheme, but even after four to five months, the money still hasn’t been credited to their accounts.
Those who have newly applied have most likely received an SMS that says VM WBGOVT. The SMS is – Your Lakshmir Bhandar application is received with application ID ……………………………… Lakshmir Bhandar, Govt. of WB.
- I submitted the form under the Duare Sarkar Scheme at the end of 2024, but the money hasn’t come in even in early 2025. the question is – do we need to submit the form again?
- Let me clarify; if you’ve already received an SMS and were given an acknowledgement slip from the Duare Sarkar camp, then there is no need to submit the form again.
For those who haven’t started receiving the money (WB Lakshmir Bhandar 2025) yet, here’s something you should know – if you’ve received the SMS and got the acknowledgement slip, but your form verification is still not complete, don’t worry. As you know, in Bengal, things can sometimes move a bit slowly. So there’s no need to feel disheartened.
Untill our Chief Minister officially announces when the new applicants will start receiving the money, you’ll just have to wait a little longer.
